KATHMANDU, May 29: The government has announced plans to launch a program to welcome one million tourists in the coming fiscal year 2022/23.
To soothe the infliction caused by COVID-19, the government has decided to waive license and renewal fees for hotels and businesses related to tourism. Announcing the budget for FY 2022/23 on Sunday, Finance Minister Janardan Sharma said that the government will continue the subsidy that it has been providing to tourism-related businesses.

The government also said that it would support the upgradation of trekking trails to base camps of peaks opened for the public, and expand telecommunication facilities in the trails.
“A total of Rs 330 million has been allocated for the construction of ‘The Great Himalayan Trail’ that extends from east to west of Nepal,” Minister Sharma said, adding, “For the Tourism Infrastructure Development Program underway in coordination with the local units in 216 places, Rs 900 million has been allocated.”
The government has allocated a total of Rs 9.38 billion for the tourism sector in the budget for FY 2022/23.
