KATHMANDU, Feb 13: Guardians have sought help from the government after Shuvatara School at Sanepa, Lalitpur decided to scrap grades 1-3 from the new academic year.
According to the Guardians Association Nepal, about 100 guardians submitted a memorandum to the District Education Office, Lalitpur on Monday demanding necessary action against the school.
“We are badly affected by the school's decision,” said Suman Malla, one of the guardians. “We want our children to continue in the school but it has deceived us to shift the school to Lamatar, Lalitpur on the pretext of damaged walls,” he added. “The school is scraping the gardes 1-3 section.”
Shyam Kashyapati, principal and founder of the school, said that the walls of the school buildings are damaged and in a weak condition. “So we are shifting to Lamatar from coming April.”
The school was running even after the earthquake two years ago. The school, established 28 years ago, will run classes for grades 4 onwards from the coming academic year, but scrap the three lower grades without permission from the DEO. “Our school committee has formally decided to shut down the junior wing,” said Kashyapati.
Dil Nath Puri, chief of the DEO, said that they have started investigating the case. “The section cannot be scrapped in such a way,” he said. “We will study the matter and take necessary action.”
