Sankhuwasabha, Sept 13: A hearing has started in the district court on the case relating to the death of inmates in the district prison, Sankhuwasabha.


The hearing started after the completion of the recording of statements from 15 accused people in the case, said the court’s Registrar Ram Chandra KC. A case has been lodged in the court against seven police personnel and eight prisoners in the incident.

The case is being heard by the bench of District Judge Teknath Gautam, said KC. The bench will take a decision after hearing the arguments from both sides.


A case has been filed against Assistant Sub-inspector Laxmi Chaudhary, Constable Suman Gurung, the prison security guard Daman Singh Rai, head constable Raj Kumar Shrestha, constable Paban Kumar Mahato, security guard Nusan Rai, and prisoners Ram Karki, Anish Sharma Kattel, Sachin Rai, Suman Sarumagar, Tikaram Chauhan, Nabin Kumar Rai, Min Bahadur Tamang and Indradhoj Ghimire.  


CCTV footage show that the accused beat up the fleeing prisoners after catching them and brought them back into the prison. Two inmates--Binod Tolangi, 20, of Madi Municipality-5 in Sankhuwasabha district and Aakash Balami, 28, of Kakani Rural Municipality-7 in Nuwakot district died in the incident.
