KATHMANDU, March 7: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi has appealed protesters not to get involved in arson and vandalism in the aftermath of the fateful incident in Rajbiraj on Monday.
According to Minister Nidhi's press coordinator Ramjee Dahal, Minister Nidhi also directed security personnel to normalize the situation without excessive use of force. Nidhi's appeal comes in the wake of the killings of at least three agitating Madhesi cadres in police firing in Rajbiraj.
Police and Madhesi protesters had engaged in clash after the latter tried to disrupt UML's rally held in Rajbiraj on Monday.
Minister Nidhi had also asked the CPN-UML to withdraw the ongoing Mechi-Mahakali Campaign in view of the clashes that erupted in Rajbiaraj.
According to Dahal, Nidhi talked to UML Chairman K P Sharma Oli over phone and requested him to withdraw the campaign activities considering the security sensitivities. Subsequently, the UML had decided to put off its program for three days.
Separately, Minister Nidhi talked to UDMF leader Mahantha Thakur and expressed sorrow over the incident in Rajbiraj. He assured Thakur, who is currently in Janakpur, that the government would take care of the treatment of all those injured in the incident.
