House sub-panel seeks action against Tourism Minister Adhikari, ex-ministers, NAC office bearers

KATHMANDU, Jan 2: A parliamentary subcommittee formed to probe the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) aircraft purchase scam has submitted its report to the Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday.


The subcommittee led by lawmaker Rajendra KC submitted the 52-page report to PAC Chairman Bharat Kumar Shah at Singhdurbar on Wednesday. The report implicated two former tourism ministers Jitendra Narayan Dev and Jiban Bahadur Shahi and incumbent tourism minister Rabindra Adhikari.

In its report, the sub-committee has concluded that the ministers were the main responsible for the scam in which Rs 4 billion was embezzled.


The subcommittee has recommended action against three ministers including Adhikari and former ministers. The subcommittee has also concluded that the tourism secretaries including incumbent Krishna Prasad Devkota were also involved in the corruption as the chairs of the NAC board.


The other secretaries implicated in the report are Prem Rai, who is now home secretary, while Shankar Prasad Adhikari has already retired. Likewise, the committee has recommended to immediately suspend NAC’s Sugat Ratna Kansakar and Madan Kharel and all board members of the NAC board.
