Bhawana Ghimire severes ties with CAN
KATHMANDU, July 1: International Cricket Council’s 53-member full council on Friday ratified the decision to suspend Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and send representatives to Nepal. A board meeting of the global cricket governing body had suspended CAN on April 25 this year.
As per the press release issued by the ICC on Friday, the full council took the decision to ratify the suspension of CAN along with USA Cricket Association (USACA), which was suspended by the ICC last year.

However, ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar said that its delegation comprising of board directors and senior management officers will visit Nepal and meet various stakeholders before ICC’s meeting scheduled for October.
“An ICC delegation will visit Nepal and will meet with the Nepal government and cricket officials, while I will lead an ICC team including Mr Dave Cameron, Mr Giles Clarke, Mr Imran Khawaja and Mr David Peever to the USA to meet with various stakeholders in that market and help them lay the foundation for the effective development of the sport (at grassroots and international level) and implementation of a governance structure that unifies the entire cricket community in the USA,” Manohar said.
He also added that the ICC will continue to provide as much support as possible so that the countries could put in place good governance and cricket structure.
Ghimire distanced herself from CAN
Bhawana Ghimire, who was the chief executive officer of suspended CAN, on Friday announced that she has distanced herself from all activities of the suspended cricket governing body of Nepal. However, she said she will continue as the local operation coordinator of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in Nepal.
Currently, Nepal doesn’t have a cricket governing body since the ICC suspended CAN in April.
“I submitted my resignation letter to Ramesh Silwal on Wednesday,” Ghimire told Republica over telephone. On Friday, she tweeted that she had severed ties with the defunct cricket governing body.
Silwal was the president of the ad hoc committee of the CAN that was formed by National Sports Council despite the existence of a controversially elected CAN under Chatur Bahadur Chand.
Earlier, Ghimire had been working as the CEO of the elected CAN. However, the cricket governing body had not renewed her contract.
Nevertheless, the ad hoc committee led by Silwal had appointed her to the same post.
