KATHMANDU, June 29: Leader of the major opposition Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, has demanded that the government immediately implement the agreement reached on Tuesday to provide Rs 150,000 as first installment to every earthquake-hit household.
Organizing a press meet at the Legislature-parliament building on Wednesday, NC President Deuba warned that if the government tampered with the agreement, the party won't remain silent.
"Although NC extends full support on the implementation of the constitution, it was not viable to hold election in the local bodies by coming mid-December. It is not possible because the commission formed to delineate the local bodies' term runs until March 2017."
He further stressed that NC was not against election, but is insisting for the effective implementation of the constitution with the holding of the election as per the commission's report.
The NC made such remark after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli spoke on the issues raised by the major opposition at the Legislature-Parliament meeting.
It welcomed the agreement that the government would provide Rs 150,000 as first installment to the quake survivors, inclusion of the victims' name missed earlier and taking ahead the campaign of reconstruction in a transparent and fair manner.
On the occasion, leaders Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Mahesh Acharya and Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat made it clear that the parliament was obstructed to make the government sensitive towards the plight of the earthquake affected ones, who are spending lives under the tents, and in desperate need of help for the re-construction of their houses.
