MAHOTTARI , May 19: The pregnant women, new mothers and newborn in Mahottari Rural Municipality in Mahottari district are at risk of several health issues in lack of a birthing center.
In birthing centre routine check-up during pregnancy, intuitional delivery and ante and post-natal care are provided to pregnant women, new mothers and newborn babies by trained birth attendants and female health volunteers.
Unfortunately, this rural municipality which has more than 30,000 rural municipalities and 800 expecting mothers, does not have a single birthing centre, according to Rural Municipality Health Joint- Coordinator Saroj Kumar Jha.

Pregnant women were compelled to deliver children in a risk condition unattended by skilled birth attendants in birthing centre which have all the basic facilities and run round the clock.
Pregnant women go to the District Hospital or Janakpur for delivery, further risking the lives of both expecting mothers and to-be-born babies, shared female health volunteer in ward no 5 in the rural municipality, Bedani Devi Mahato.
The pregnant women who go into labour in the evening or at night particularly face difficulties to get to the health facilities. Mahottari Rural Municipality Chair Sunil Kumar Jha informed that a well-equipped birthing centre would be built soon, for which, he said, efforts were being made under the safe motherhood program.
Currently, the rural municipality was providing training to the female community health volunteers, according to Jha.
