KATHMANDU, Sept 12: The 'Teej' festival, also celebrated as the 'Haritalika', is being observed by Nepali Hindu women today throughout the country. 



Women fast and wish for a prosperous life of their spouse on this festival which falls on the third dark day of the lunar month according to Nepali month Bhadau. Women rejoice with various delicious dishes known as 'Dar' a day before 'Teej' and fast on the next day as per the tradition.

Thousands of devotees throng to the Shiva temple and pay homage to Lord Shiva, light lamps and spend the night awake. They dance and sing and praise for the womanhood. Many devotees have reached Pashupatinath. All four doors of the temple remained open for the devotees who lined up since today dawn. Arrangements have been made for facilitating the worshippers and traffic along Tilganga-Gaushala-Chabahil road close to the Pashupatinath Temple are into operation, easing their movements, according to Pashupati Area Development Trust. 


Common are the scenes of groups of women clad in red, green and orange clothing especially saris and blouse singing Teej songs and dancing in the premises of the temple.
