At an interaction program organized by the Ministry here today, Ministry's Joint-Secretary Rudra Devi Sharma shared that all preparations were completed to mark the upcoming IWD.
The slogan for this year's IWD is 'Common Thinking and Equal Treatment for Gender Equality: Basis for Prosperity'.
International Day of World's Indigenous Peoples to be observed
The Ministry, as well as various social organizations, are going to organize several creative programmes to mark the day with fervor.
According to Joint-Secretary Sharma, efforts were being coordinated among the all three level of government, constitutional organizations, civil societies and development partners for the same.
Rally would be held in various places in the cities in Kathmandu while President Bidya Devi Bhandari is scheduled to mark her presence at an event to be organized at the National City Hall on the very day.
The celebration of the IWD which has a profound national, as well as global significance in advancing gender equity, has evolved from a labor movement to become a UN-recognized annual event.
The seeds of it were planted in 1908 when a group of staunch feminist women marched through New York City demanding eradication of disparity between the male and female in economic, social, cultural and political sectors.
First celebrated in 1911, the UN in 1977 proclaimed March 8 to be observed as the International Women's Day.
The theme for this year's UN's IWD is: 'Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change'. RSS
