Kathmandu district govt attorney office launches probe into RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane’s passport
KATHMANDU, Feb 9: The District Government Attorney Office, Kathmandu, has started an investigation into the passport submitted by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane to the Passport Department. The office has started an investigation into the complaint regarding the misuse of the Nepali passport obtained by Lamichhane using an invalid citizenship certificate.
KATHMANDU, Feb 9: The District Government Attorney Office, Kathmandu, has started an investigation into the passport submitted by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane to the Passport Department. The office has started an investigation into the complaint regarding the misuse of the Nepali passport obtained by Lamichhane using an invalid citizenship certificate.
The government attorney office is going to investigate the complaint filed on Tuesday 7th February against Lamichhane.
"Documents have been sent to investigate citizenship, passport and foreign travel," District Government Attorney Office, Kathmandu Chief Achyut Mani Neupane told Republica.
According to him, the office has made correspondence with the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, Passport Department, Tripureshwor, and Immigration Department, Kalikasthan.
Yuvraj Paudel (Safal) filed a complaint of misuse of passport against Lamichhane. Paudel had earlier filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court regarding Lamichhane's citizenship dispute. After the District Police Complex, Kathmandu, refused to register the complaint against Lamichhane, Paudel filed a complaint at the district government attorney office , Kathmandu.
Based on the statement given by Paudel, the district attorney’s office asked for documents and more details from the above-mentioned agencies.
After hearings on a petition regarding Lamichhane’s citizenship controversy, the Supreme Court ruled that after Lamichhane renounced his American citizenship, the process of acquiring his Nepali citizenship had not been started and that Lamichhane did not have a valid Nepali citizenship.
Following the Supreme Court's decision, Lamichhane lost his positions of party chairman, MP, Deputy prime minister and home minister. After that, Lamichhane obtained his citizenship from the Kathmandu District Administration Office and was reinstated as the party chairman, but he was not able to hold the positions of MP and minister.
Then Lamichhane announced the withdrawal of his party from the government.
