BANIYANI (Jhapa), July 25: A total of 86 people lost their lives to road accidents that occurred last fiscal year (fiscal year 2073-74 BS) in Jhapa district. Among them, 69 are male, 13 are female and four are children, the District Police Office, Jhapa said.
Office Chief Dhundiraj Giri shared that though the number of road accidents slightly went down in the last fiscal year relatively to the previous year, the number of fatalities increased. When we analyze the records of traffic-related deaths of the past three consecutive years, we see that the figure is on the increasing ratio (66 in the fiscal year 071-72 BS, 79 in 072-73 BS and 86 in the last fiscal), he said.
The district had recorded 144 road accidents in the fiscal year 071-72 BS and it was followed by 198 and 191, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Office said the cases of drunk-driving are on the rise in the district and in the last fiscal, the Office punished 1,450 people for this which was more by 607 compared to the previous year.
Of them, motorcyclists are atop the list with 1,166 cases. RSS
