DHARAN, Jan 18: Junior residents and medical officers at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) have staged protests after not getting risk-allowances despite the government announcement.
The health professionals involved in treating COVID-19 patients when the country witnessed a massive surge in the infections of the disease in the country have yet to receive the risk-allowances as promised by the government as an incentive to the medics.

The junior residents at the institute have been boycotting their duties at the COVID-19 hospital since January 14 demanding the payment of incentives. At the same time, medical officers have also staged a sit-in in front of the office of the vice-chancellor since Sunday, demanding timely settlement of the salary and allowances.
“Though the government has already released the budget to address the risk-allowances, we are yet to receive the promised amount,” said Dr Padam Nepali, Vice-chairman of Junior Resident Welfare Society. According to Dr Nepali, their demands were not addressed though they raised the issue time and again in the past six months.
Dental surgeons have also joined medical officers in their protest against the late payment. They warned that they would even boycott emergency services if their demands are not met by Tuesday. Medical officers have also raised another demand that they be paid as much salary as 8th-level officers get.
