Karate players selected for 18th Asian Games

KATHMANDU, April 30: The selection committee has selected Karate players for the 18th Asian Games which will be held in August this year.

KATHMANDU, April 30: The selection committee has selected Karate players for the 18th Asian Games which will be held in August this year. 


A total of eight players, four each from men’s and women’s categories, have been selected for the games, informed referee coordinator Rajendra Kapali. Of the total eight players, seven are from the departmental teams.

Tribhuvan Army Club’s Parshuram Bastola is selected for the men’s singles category, Nepal Police Club’s Sonam Lama for the 55 kg category, Kathmandu’s Nabin Rasaili for the 67 kg category, Police’s Diwas Shrestha for the U-84 kg category. 


Police’s Chanchala Danuwar is selected for the women’s single category, Armed Police Force’s Anu Adhikari for the 50 kg category, Police’ Sunita Maharjan for the 61 kg category and Army’s Rita Karki for the U-68 kg category. 


Karate was the sole medal winner in the last edition of the games which was held in Incheon, South Korea. In women’s singles category, Bimala Tamang had won the bronze medal. 


The National Sports Council (NSC) had formed a five-member committee for the selection of the players for the 18th South Asian Games on April 23 under the coordination of NSC member Shanti Singh. 


The members of the committee included the director of the training and coaching department Rim Bahadur Ranabhat, the director of the national team preparations Arjun Bahadur BK, head coach of karate Sobhit Raj Prasain and the president of the Nepal National and International Players’ Association Deepak Shrestha.
