KATHMANDU, July 17: The Karnali Province government has announced a public holiday on the occasion of 'Sharwan Sankranti and Deuda Parba' today.
The provincial Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law has issued a notification saying that a public holiday has been declared in all government and public institutions in Karnali today.

Nidhiraj Neupane, spokesperson for the ministry, said that as per the decision taken by a cabinet meeting held on April 12, 2023 of Karnali Province Government, the notice of public holiday has been published today throughout the province.
Shrawan 1 (July 17 this year), which carries the historical and cultural significance of Karnali, is celebrated as Shrawan Sankranti or Deuda Parba' with various programs in the districts of Upper Karnali and Birendranagar. The festival is celebrated as a day to get rid of infirmities, deformities and physical disorders.
Karna Bahadur Budhthapa, president of Karnali Deuda Samaj, Jumla, informed republica that the Deuda Surkhet Birendranagar and Jumla Khalanga will be played in an entertaining manner to reveal the social, cultural, economic and political life of the citizens and good governance.
In Birendranagar, there is a cultural tradition of playing Deuda on the 1st and 15th of every Nepali month. Amrit Pandey, president of Jumli Ekta Sewa Samaj, Surkhet, said that there is a ritual of burning firewood and getting rid of skin diseases (luto fyalne) at 7 o'clock in the evening near the Ghanta Ghar.
