SURKHET, April 23: Two and a half months after the formation of the provincial government, the Karnali Province is unveiling its policy and programs on Monday. Sources privy to the government's proposed policies said that the provincial government has given priority to infrastructure development, agriculture and hydropower, tourism promotion and land reform.
Bimala KC, spokesperson of the government, informed that the government is all set to announce a budget of Rs 1.02 billion for the remaining three months of the current fiscal year. KC, who is also the minister for agriculture and cooperative, said that Governor Durga Keshar Khanal will unveil the policy and program amid a function on Monday.

“Herbs, hydropower and tourism are the key aspects of prosperity of the province,” said Spokesperson KC adding, “The policy and programs will be largely focused on these areas.”
She informed that the provincial government aims to increase the contribution of agricultural sector to the GDP and welcome 500,000 tourists in a year.
A cabinet meeting of the province was held on April 14 in Rara of Mugu district in the presence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The meeting aimed at promoting tourism of the Karnali region in order to develop the relatively backward region.
In its policy and programs, Karnali Province, which has no access to any of the Indian border points, has prioritized access to road and connection with China. The policy and programs have categorized Kohalpur-Surkhet-Hilsa road section, Bheri Corridor, Surkhet-Jajarkot-Dolpa Road, Dang-Surkhet-Dipayal Road, Bhurigaon-Telpani and Surkhet-Dailekh-Nagma-Gamgadhi road as national pride projects.
The province aims to provide electricity facility to all locals within the next five months, arrange air ambulance, protect all language, religions and cultures and promote local crops to ensure self reliance on food in the region.
