KATHMANDU, Jan 10: The 29th Municipal Council meeting of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has proposed Rs 5.4 billion budget for the next fiscal year (FY) 2017-18.
Rudra Singh Tamang, chief executive officer of KMC, unveiled the plans, policies and projects to be implemented with the budget. Of the total budget allotted for next fiscal year, the meeting has decided to allocate Rs 1.62 billion for various infrastructure development projects, Rs 812 million for land pooling projects, Rs 810 million for greenery and beautification, Rs 310 million for the construction of KMC's new multi-storey building at Teku, Rs 113 million for disaster management and Rs 100 million for installing solar street lights, among others.
CEO Tamang also highlighted that the KMC would invest Rs 200 million in public transportation. He believes that it will help make city transportation easier. The KMC has planned to construct 42 public toilets in various places in Public Private Partnership model and also to build additional 1,285 solar street lights inside the city through the same model.
“For developing the city, we have made several result-oriented programs and policies,” said Tamang during a function organized in Kathmandu on Monday to unveil the programs and policies of the KMC for the next fiscal year.
The KMC is also planning to start the reconstruction of the Kasthamandap Temple which had collapsed during the April 2015 earthquake.
The KMC has also published tender notice for building its office in Teku just a few days ago.
