KATHMANDU, July 25: The much-awaited 7th China-South Asia Expo and the 27th China Kunming Import and Export Fair are all set to be held in August in China.
The events will be held from August 16 to 20, 2023 in Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan Province under the theme “Solidarity and Cooperation for Common Development.”
It is an international comprehensive exposition jointly organized by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Yunnan Province and co-hosted by commercial authorities of South Asian countries.
For years, the China-South Asia Expo has become a common platform for economic and trade cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between China and the South Asian countries.

This year, the China-South Asia Expo will be held both online and offline.
Besides this expo, Kunming will also host the China Kunming Import and Export Fair, also known as Kunming Fair. The international trade fair aims to deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields between China, South Asia, Southeast Asia and beyond, and achieve common development and progress.
The fair is jointly organized by the Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Yunnan Province, Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipality, Guizhou Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Tibet Autonomous Region and Chengdu Municipality.
In order to intensify the mutually beneficial cooperation between China and South Asian countries, the South Asia Commodities Fair was upgraded to China-South Asia Expo in October 2012. Since then, China-South Asia Expo has become the only national-level comprehensive exposition for multilateral diplomacy, economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and South Asian countries.
The expo will have the participation of exhibitors and participants from different South and Southeast countries.
According to Yunnan Commercial Representative Office in Kathmandu, the expo opens up huge opportunities for the Nepali business and trading community. It informed that a delegation of around 100 businessmen and traders from Nepal is participating in this year’s event. They have already booked the stalls.
It further informed that the China-South Asia Expo provides an ideal platform to the traders for exchange, to showcase and sell their unique products, to strike business deals and for networking to exploit the wide Chinese market.
Nepali traders mostly sell tea and coffee, pashmina, handicrafts,and other products in the fair. Every year, this fair has been proven to be an important occasion to promote trade, economic and investment cooperation between Nepal and China, according to the Nepali traders.
