KVPT puts back Yognarendra's statue on pedestal (photo feature)

KATHMANDU, Feb 27: The Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust (KVPT) reinstalled the statues of Yognarendra Malla and his two queens at Patan Durbar Square on Monday.

KATHMANDU, Feb 27: The Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust (KVPT) reinstalled the statues of Yognarendra Malla and his two queens at Patan Durbar Square on Monday.


The three statues were damaged by the devastating earthquake of April 25, 2015. As part of the post-quake reconstruction, the KVPT put back the statues on a high pedestal as it was before. Molding the statues taking five months time, the KVPT put back the statues.

According to Rohit Ranjeetkar, a conservation architect at KVPT, the statues were put back under the supervision of the Department of Archeology. He also informed that the KVPT raised Rs 2.2 million from public and completed the reconstruction work, for which a team of conservationist from Austria based university of Applied Arts supported the KVPT voluntarily.


The total height of the each pedestal and the statue now is 8.21 meters.
