BENI (Myagdi), July 21: A massive landslide that occurred at Bhakimli-9, Torakhet of Myagdi on Wednesday afternoon swept away three houses and put five at high risk.
The landslide rolling down behind the human settlement had blown away three houses and a shed of Bal Bahadur Darji of the village.
Last year, the landslide took away the houses and lands of Dhan Bahadur Darji, Nil Bahadur Darji, Bipendra Darji, Til Bahadur Darji, Gopal Darji, Purna Bahadur Darji, Krishna Bahadur Darji and Bishnu Bahadur Darji of the area, informed Tek Bahadur Malla, a local.
Landslide sweeps three houses
According to Malla, the Wednesday landslide had swept away the same houses and sheds which were damaged by last year's landslide. However, there is no human and livestock casualty in the natural disaster.
A police team was immediately mobilized at the landslide area from Myagdi District Police Office for cautionary activities, said Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) Biswo Raj Khadka.
DSP Khadka, however, said that he has not received concrete information about the damages caused by the landslide in the area.
Landslide has been a recurring phenomenon in Torakhet since last five years. Locals have been forced to shift from the village to secured areas due to fear of natural deisaster.
Likewise, the human settlement of Beni municipality-4, Bagarphant has also been at risk when efforts to prevent landslide turned futile.
At least 12 households here have been rendered landless after the Tarakhet landslide took away their hundreds Ropanis of fertile land.
The landslide had displaced 20 households of the village in previous years. Dwellers of Bagarphant are also living in a precarious condition because of natural disaster. RSS
