KATHMANDU, Nov 22: The Members of Parliament (MPs) have called for developing the bill related to the social security to turn it into a fund based purely on contribution.
The lawmakers took part in the discussion on social security related bill, 2072 during the meeting of the International Relations and Labor Committee under the Legislature Parliament. They suggested making the bill based purely on labor contribution of the workers and employees by removing the provision for providing social security amount for elderly, differently-able and single women.

The lawmakers also demanded keeping a distinct arrangement for provision on social security. As the bill was introduced with trilateral agreement between the government, labourers and the owners in 2067 BS, the lawmakers have called for finalizing it in the same manner. They have also called for integrated approach for labour bill and social security bill.
On the occasion, lawmaker, Pushkar Acharya, said it would not be justified to provide social security money for other people by drawing the money from the fund based on contribution of employees and laborers.
Lawmaker, Binod Shrestha, said the bill became chaotic as it tried to address all the sides. Lawmaker, Chudamani Jungali, said the lawmakers have already registered an amendment proposal on the bill presented at the parliament to remove the subjects other than laborers.
The fund currently has a deposit of Rs 12.10 billion accumulated over the years since 2067 BS by slashing one per cent of the allowance received by the government employees, security organs and labourers, said labor and Employment Ministry's Secretary, Laxman Prasad Mainali. RSS
