KATHMANDU, March14: Deputy Parliamentary Party leader of the main opposition CPN-UML, Subas Nembang, has said that there is no alternative than to go for the local elections to let the people decide the right course.

Speaking at a meeting of the Parliament on Tuesday, Nembang said, "We are ready to face defeat but the country and the entire Nepali people should win and the constitution must win."

Urging the agitating parties to take all their allegations against the UML to the people, Nembang said that the people should be allowed to decide who is right and who is wrong.

"You can correct the party which you blame to be greedy and arrogant," said Nembang, pointing to the agitating Madhes-based parties. He also suggested resolving the existing differences with people's fresh mandate.

Nembang claimed that the upcoming local elections will empower Dalits, Madhesis and women by increasing their representation in politics. He also claimed that the local units have been granted enough authority so that the rights of people can be delivered to their doorstep.

On a different note, Nembang said that the ongoing Mechi-Mahakali National Campaign of the UML is not against any party.

Meanwhile, Madhes-based parties boycotted the House meeting saying that the meeting did not put the constitution amendment bill in House business.  Sadbhawana Party leader Laxman Lal Karna took exception saying that the constitution amendment bill was not put in the agenda in the House meeting.

Coming hard on CPN-UML, Karna said the UML can stage a nationwide campaign but there is no provision in the constitution that allows it to go against any party.
