BIRATNAGAR, Aug 22: Lightning that struck amidst downpour killed four people in the eastern region.
According to East Regional Police Office, Biratnagar, the lightning struck 60-year-old Laxmi Mukhiya of Kanchanrup VDC-4 of Saptari district dead, while her around eight-year-old grand-daughter Deva Mukhiya sustained serious injuries in the incident.
Laxmi and her grand-daughter Deva were staying in their house when the lightning struck. Deva is undergoing treatment at a local clinic.

Similarly, lightning killed 18-year-old Rajiv Shrestha and injured Prem Shrestha, 27, of Chhinamakhu-4 in the eastern hilly district Bhojpur. They were working in the field when the lightning struck them.
Likewise, the lightning claimed five buffaloes in Chhinamakhu-7, Bhojpur.
Similarly, 65-year-old Nirmaya Sarki was killed in the lightning strike in Katunje-8 in Okhaldhunga district. Seriously injured Sarki breathed her last while undergoing treatment at a local health post, said Area Police Office Baruneshwar.
Thirty-year-old Lal Kumar Rai was killed by lightning in Deusa VDC-2 of Solukhumbu district. Her three-year-old daughter was injured in the incident, said East Regional Police Office, Biratnagar.
Likewise, 38-year-old Ram Bahadur Rai was injured by lightning in Deumai VDC-3 of Ilam district.
Lightning triggered by strong winds amidst downpour has wrecked havoc in the eastern region of Nepal since Sunday afternoon.
