ARGHAKHANCHI, Nov 23: At the time when the government is preparing to amend the constitution to separate the Tarai districts with the hilly districts of the Province No 5, people of the province have warned of a stern protest against the government’s action.
Media reports have suggested that the government is preparing to file the amendment proposal at the parliament to merge Arghakhanchi, Gulmi and Palpa to Province No 4 and Pyuthan and Rolpa to Province No 6.
Arghakhanchi locals have warned of staging a stern protest if the government divides the province. Speakers at an interaction organized in the district on Tuesday warned of staging a nation-wide protest if government fails to address their demand.
Locals demand splitting the administration of Rukum district
Speaking at the interaction, Nepali Congress (NC) District President Bishnu Khanal denounced the proposal of separating the province.
“We are in a constant touch with the party’s leadership on the issue. We will resort to protest if the province is divided.”
Likewise, CPN-UML District Chairman Chetnarayan Acharya said that his party has been expressing its disagreement to constitution amendment
“Amending the constitution by following the direction from foreign powers will weaken the sovereignty,” he said.
Also speaking, Joint Coordinator of CPN (Maoist Center) District Chapter, Cham Kumari Khanal said that they will not accept the amendment proposal to separate the province.
