KATHMANDU, Nov 29: The weather is likely to remain disturbed in eastern and central regions of the country for a few more days due to the development of low pressure trough on Monday, the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has warned.

Gloomy weather persisted throughout the day on Monday in most parts of the central region, including the Kathmandu Valley. The Valley denizens hardly got the warmth of sun's rays due to thick clouds covering the sky. People burnt wood and logs in various areas of the capital and huddled together near the fireplace to fight the sudden rise in cold.

Meanwhile, light showers were expected in the eastern region on Monday, as per the weather forecast of the MFD, a division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

But, much to delight of the locals, no rainfall took place. Nonetheless, thick clouds hovered around the region throughout the day. The sky in the central region was cloudier than that of the east, according to the MFD.

Despite witnessing a foggy weather, the Tarai belt of the eastern and far-western regions was comparatively warmer, according to the MFD. As per the forecast, the weather will remain disturbed for at least two more days.

“This disturbance of weather is due to the development of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. The development directly affected weather condition in central India as well as eastern and central regions of Nepal,” said Samir Shrestha, a meteorologist at the MFD.

According to him, there are also chances of snowfall in the eastern and central regions of the country due to the increasing cold. However, winter is not in its full swing as the country is still going through the post-monsoon phase.
