KATHMANDU, Oct 16: Police here arrested a person who had been extorting money from commoners and businesspersons in the guise of a commander of an armed group.

Baikuntha Belabase, originally from Siddar VDC of Arghakhanchi district, was nabbed from his rental house at Manamaiju in the capital city. Belbase was learnt to have fleeced money threatening people and projecting him to be the commander of an underground armed group named Al-Qaida World Organization South Asia and Nepal.

With various fake names as Agni Jwala, Bibash, Ashina among others, the arrested had been faking to be head of the several other pseudo armed groups such as Armed Defense Army Force and Tiger Liberation Front, according to the Metropolitan Crime Division (MCD), Kathmandu.

Belbase has been sent to the Metropolitan Police Range in Teku for further investigation.

It is learned that four people, including Belbase, were also arrested earlier on the charges of engaging in an organized crime of abduction on May 27, 2013. They have also served their time in jail for 27 months. RSS
