KALIKOT, Dec 26: After three days of violent protests following the killing of a temporary cop by police, situation is finally returning to normal in Manma, the district headquarters of Kalikot. The temporary cop, Bibek Aidi, 20, of Raskot Municipality in the district, was killed Friday while he and other temporary cops were protesting against alleged embezzlement of their salaries and perks by Nepal Police. With this, the District Administration Office on Monday lifted the indefinite curfew that was imposed since Saturday.

The curfew was lifted from 8 am Monday. The situation has returned to normal after an investigation team led by Man Bahadur BK, under-secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs reached the district.

However, the family members and relatives of the victim have refused to collect the body and are staging a sit-in in front of the District Administration Office demanding proper investigation into the killing and stern action against those involved.

Besides this, they have also demanded appropriate compensation and relief. The family is reportedly being pressured by the district hospital to collect the body at the earliest.

"My son was killed by those who are entrusted with protecting others. They are criminals and should not be spared," said Hari Bahadur Aidi, father of the deceased.

Protesters have been even pressurizing the authority to declare Bibek a martyr. The local administration has promised relief and compensation to the family of the deceased and free treatment for the injured temporary cops.

Although the curfew has been lifted, security has been tightened in the vicinity of the District Administration Office (DAO) and District Police Office (DPO). The authorities have warned locals not to congregate in group.
