Mid-western, Far-western into PM Cup semis

KATHMANDU, July 14: The semifinals draw of the men’s singles volleyball of the second Prime Minister Cup University Sports Meet has been decided on Friday.

KATHMANDU, July 14: The semifinals draw of the men’s singles volleyball of the second Prime Minister Cup University Sports Meet has been decided on Friday.


According to the draw, Mid-western University will face Far-western University while Kathmandu University will face Tribhuvan University.


In Friday’s league matches played at the Dasharath Stadium’s covered hall, Tribhuvan defeated Purwanchal University and Far-western by 25-11, 25-18 and 25-11, 25-22 respectively.

In other matches, Pokhara University defeated Sanskrit University by 25-13, 25-10 but lost to Mid-western by 25-13, 25-15. 


Kathmandu saw off Sanskrit University by 18-25, 25-20 and 25-19. The Purbanchal University defeated Agriculture and Forestry University by 25-23, 22-25 and 25-14.


Gold for Karan, Deepika

Kathmandu University’s Karan Rai and Deepika Shrestha have taken home gold medals in the table tennis event. 


Karan bagged wins in three events in the super league of men’s singles event participated by four players. Tribhuvan University’s Bhabuk Joshi, who won two games, claimed the second spot. Bibek Kawa of Pokhara University and Mid-western University’s Roshan Chaulagain were placed third. 


The Super league was decided by the round robin league format. 

In the match played at the National Table Tennis Practice Center, Lainchaur, Deepika maintained her perfect record by winning all the games in the women’s singles event. Kathmandu’s Ishika Regmi claimed the second spot by winning two of the games. Nisha Shrestha and Dibya Shrestha had to satisfy for the third position. 

Likewise, the pair of Karan Rai and Yugesh Rai won the men’s doubles event. They defeated the pair of Bibek Kawa and Deepak Giri by 11-9, 11-8, 9-11 and 11-7. 

The pair of Ishika and Deepika saw off the Nisha Shrestha and Dibya Shrestha of Agricultural and Forestry University by an easy set of 11-3, 11-8 and 11-6. 


Jeevan, Amita win 

badminton final


Tribhuvan’s Jeevan Acharya and Pokhara University’s Amita Giri were declared champions in the singles event of badminton. 

In the men’s final match played at the International Sports Complex, Satdobato, Jeevan defeated Nir Bikram Devkota of his own university by an easy set of 21-18 and 21-13. 

Amita saw off Ganga Bista of Far-western University by 24-22 and 21-8 in the women’s single. 


The pair of Amita and Soni Gupta beat Tribhuvan’s Fiji Baniya and Tara Ale by 21-7, 16-21 and 21-18 in the women’s double. Similarly, the pair of Jeevan and Nir defeated Pokhara’s Sailesh Dahal and Sanjay Rana Magar in the men’s double.
