KATHMANDU, April 18: The Ministry of Health (MoH) is planning to open Janata Health Centers in all wards of the metropolitan cities, sub-metropolitan cities and municipalities across the country.
In a bid to provide services on prevention of non-communicable diseases, monitoring of environment in the settlements, treatment of communicable diseases, primary treatment, lab facilities, maternal-child health and family planning services, reproductive health, vaccination, nutritional health, counseling for mental health and elderly people, and management of child health, the government will gradually set up such health centers, according to the MoH.
Early-age abortions on rise in urban areas
In the first phase, the MoH has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City to open 11 health centers in Kathmandu within the current fiscal year, said Health Minister Gagan Thapa. “This service will be extended to all wards of the metropolis within three years,” he added. “Primary health services will be provided at free of cost from these centers.”
There are more than four million people including temporary settlers in the Kathmandu Valley. The services being provided through the health centers will mainly target the people from poor economic backgrounds.
