MUGU, Nov 26: Just a day before the first phase of parliamentary and provincial elections, the District Election Office of Mugu has expressed concern that some of the ballot boxes in the polling centers of the district are still exposed to the risk of being captured.

Terror activities deliberately enacted to foil the elections in addition to election-related violence have been observed throughout the district. There are still risks that voters might be prevented from going to polling centers to cast votes, said the district chapter of the EC.

However, its biggest concern is the potential of ballot boxes being captured while being brought to the district headquarters. “We have mobilized necessary security forces to ensure that such incidents do not happen,” said Rajiman Budha, information officer of Mugu chapter of the EC.

Altogether, as many as 1,600 personnel of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and temporary police have been mobilized to provide security to the elections, informed Election Office of the district.

The office, however, did not specifically name the polling centers of the districts that they consider potentially risky. Other reliable sources have informed that areas nearby the district headquarters, including Pina, Koila, Topla, Murma, Bam, Jima of Soru Rural Municipality, among others have higher risks.
