Mukti Ram Shrestha is NMA's new president

KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Dr Mukti Ram Shrestha has been elected as the new president of Nepal Medical Association (NMA), the umbrella organization of medical doctors. Newly-elected president Shrestha, from the democratic panel, secured 1652 votes to beat his closest rival Dr Ramesh Dhakal, who managed 1,132 votes.

KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Dr Mukti Ram Shrestha has been elected as the new president of Nepal Medical Association (NMA), the umbrella organization of medical doctors. Newly-elected president Shrestha, from the democratic panel, secured 1652 votes to beat his closest rival Dr Ramesh Dhakal, who managed 1,132 votes.



Likewise, Dr Dhundiraj Poudel was elected as NMA's senior vice president securing 1,617 votes, while his closest rival Dr Santosh Poudel got 1,107 votes. Likewise, Dr Mukunda Dahal has been elected as vice president with 1,509 votes. Similarly Dr Lochan Karki has been elected as general secretary, who secured 1,300 votes. 



The NMA informed that Dr Rakshya Shrestha has been elected as treasurer; Dr Abhimanyu Jha, joint secretary; and Prakash Budhathoki, joint treasurer. Dr Anil Bikram Karki, Dr Badri Rijal, Dr Bishwa Raj Dawadi, Dr Krishna Prasad Poudel, Dr Sailesh Pradhan and Dr Sanjeeb Tiwari have been elected as new members of NMA. 



The NMA said that 2,869 NMA members had cast their votes in the election, which was held in two rounds - one in Kathmandu Valley and another outside the valley. The association has 5,305 registered members.
