KATHMANDU, April 4: The nationwide lockdown will be extended at least by another week until midnight April 14, sources said.


A cabinet meeting has been called at 2 PM today to make a decision to this effect to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus. The government is extending the lockdown for a second time.


"As per the recommendations made by High-Level Task Force and the Ministry of Health, the lockdown will be extended by another week," a source close to the Prime Minister told Republica Online.

The source informed that the Sudur Paschim province government has also suggested the federal government to extend the lockdown after the first locally transmitted coronavirus case recorded in Kailali late last week.


As the country approaches the second week under nationwide lockdown, the government authorities have concluded that the lockdown needs to be extended by another week to stop the spread of novel coronavirus disease.


The government had first enforced the week-long lockdown order from March 24. Amid rising coronavirus cases, the government on March 29  extended the nationwide lockdown by another week, until April 7.


As of Friday, the country has witnessed nine COVID-19 confirmed cases. Of them, 1 had recovered and other eight are still receiving medical treatment.
