BIRATNAGAR, July 1: Nepali Congress (NC) mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates are taking the lead in the race for the mayor and deputy mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City for the third consecutive day.
Vote count is under way in Wards 1,2,3,4,16, 17 and 18.
NC mayoral candidate Bhim Parajuli has garnered 1900 votes, compared to 1336 votes obtained by his closest rival CPN-UML mayoral candidate Binod Dhakal.
NC continues to take lead in Biratnagar metropolis
Likewise, Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal(FSFN) mayoral candidate Umesh Yadav has garnered 1004 votes.
Similarly, NC deputy mayoral candidate Indira Karki has obtained 1625 votes, compared to 778 votes garnered by her nearest rival Maoist Center deputy mayoral candidate Namita Neupane.
Likewise, Nepal Democratic Forum (NDF) deputy mayoral candidate Suchi Chaudhari has obtained 754 votes.
Nepali Congress fought the election without forging an alliance with other parties. However, CPN-UML forged an electoral alliance with NDF while CPN(Maoist center) forged an electoral alliance with Federal Social Forum-Nepal(FSFN).
There are 1,20,000 voters in Biratnagar Metropolitan City. More than 80,000 voters cast their votes in the election held on June 28.
