POKHARA, Dec 4: Voting for the election of the Nepali Congress (NC) president of Gandaki Province is currently underway at the party’s 14th General Convention. Shukraraj Sharma is the candidate from senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel’s faction while Arjun Joshi is the candidate for the establishment faction for the post of NC’s president for Kaski.
Similarly, Binod Gurung from the male quota and Chioudey Lama from the female quota of Manang have been elected to the provincial working committee unopposed. According to the party’s statute, two members can be elected to the provincial committee from districts where there is only one constituency.
Candidates elected unopposed in various districts
Gurung and Lama were elected from the same district to the working committee as per the party statute. Likewise, Pushpa Bhattachan and Suwarna Kumar Bista have been elected unopposed from Mustang, while Mayadevi Rana Ale and Laxmi Prasad Acharya were elected from Tanahun. Meanwhile, Meena Kumari KC was elected unopposed from Parbat district, according to the election committee of NC.
Leaders Hari Prasad Shrestha (Baglung-Vice-President), Kalpana Tiwari (Syanga-Vice-President), Bishnu Prasad Lamichanne (Nawalpur- General Secretary), iran Shrestha (Gorkha-General Secretary), Ram Chandra Joshi (Parwat- Joint General Secretary), Kopila Ranabhat (Kaski-Joint General Secretary) and Ramesh Kumar Pandey (Lamjung-Joint General Secretary) are the candidates from Sharma’s panel.
Similarly, Mekhlal Shresth (Syanga-Vice President), Netra Bahadur Mahat (Myagdi-Vice President), Ishwor Pandey (Gorkha-General Secretary), Kumar Khadka (Kaski-General Secretary), Omkala Gautam (Nawalpur-Joint General Secretary), Jhul Bahadur Ale (Tanahun- Joint General Secretary), and Rajan Raj Panta (Gorkha-joint General Secretary) are the candidates from Joshi’s panel.
In the provincial convention NC, there are two ministers of Gandaki Province in Joshi’s panel. Mekhlala Shrestha and Kumar Khadka are currently ministers of the province.
The voting is underway at the exhibition center at Naya Bazar in Pokhara. As many as 600 votes have been casted since 1PM. About 1,100 provincial representatives will be taking part in the voting. The voting will end at 3PM.
