KATHMANDU, July 19: A newly-appointed lawmaker of Nepali Congress (NC) Suwarna Jwarchan has taken oath of office and secrecy amidst a special function organized at the Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar on Sunday. Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Agni Sapkota administered her oath of office and secrecy.
The main opposition party had appointed Jwarchan as its lawmaker under Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system after the sudden death of its lawmaker Gyan Kumar Chhantyal on July 1. She passed away while undergoing treatment of heart related diseases at Sahid Gangalal National Heart Center in Kathmandu.
UML lawmaker Nembang takes oath of office and secrecy
There is a provision to appoint a lawmaker from the closed list submitted earlier by the respective party to the Election Commission (EC) if a lawmaker, who is elected under the PR electoral system, passes away. The name of Jawarchan, who hails from Gulmi district, is next to the name of late Chhantyal in the NC’s closed list submitted to the EC before the 2017 election.
The NC has a total 63 seats in the lower of the parliament that has a total 275 members.
