KATHMANDU, Dec 25: Nepali Congress (NC) leaders have raised their voices to announce the date for the local polls by putting the constitution amendment bill on hold.

Majority of the leaders speaking at the meeting of the party’s office-bearers on Sunday suggested to the party leadership to make sure that election date is announced at the soonest, according to a leader.

Saying that possibilities for polls are getting diminished due to a squabble over the constitution amendment bill, NC leaders suggested to the government to implement the constitution by holding the polls.

NC senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel said that that majority of the leaders speaking at the today’s meeting had asked the government to declare the date for the local polls.

The meeting was held at NC Parliamentary Party Office in Singha Durbar.  Poudel added that they will sit again tomorrow to forge an official opinion.

The main opposition party, UML, has been obstructing the proceedings at parliament demanding to withdraw the constitution amendment bill.
