NC Prez Deuba rules out possibility of holding parliamentary election at first phase

CHITWAN, Dec 16: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that there was no possibility of holding parliamentary election in the first phase.

CHITWAN, Dec 16: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that there was no possibility of holding parliamentary election in the first phase. 


Speaking in a press meet organized by the Nepal Press Union Chitwan chapter here today, leader Deuba stated that holding the parliamentary election in the first phase as proposed by the CPN (UML) was not practical.

He added that the three major parties, NC, CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Center) were agreed to hold the election for local level at the first phase then provincial and parliamentary elections respectively. 


To a query of journalists why Madhes centric parties were asking to amend the constitution before election, leader Deuba added that the government was ready to amend the constitution therefore this query should rather be asked to those parties which were obstructing the House. 


Former PM Deuba stressed on forging consensus to hold the elections, adding that the country will face constitutional crisis if three-tier of elections were not completed by January 2018. 


Leader Deuba clarified that the constitution amendment bill was forwarded as per the previous agreement forged among the then NC President Sushil Koirala, UML Chair KP Sharma Oli and Maoist Center chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal. 


He added that the constitution would be easily enforced if it could be made acceptable to all. RSS
