Nepal beats Laos 2-0 in PM Three Nations Cup opener

KATHMANDU, March 22: Nepal defeated Laos 2-0 in the Prime Minister Three Nations Cup football championship at the Dasharath Stadium on Wednesday.


Ananta Tamang scored the opening goal for Nepal in the 29th minute. It was his third international goal. Hosts Nepal went into the break with a 1-0 lead and soon after the interval doubled the lead to 2-0, thanks to a goal by Navayug Shrestha in the 55th minute.

Nepal and Laos have faced each other twice before. On one occasion, Nepal had registered a victory while the other encounter ended in a draw.


It was the first match under Nepal’s new Italian coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese.


The other team in the football tournament is Bhutan. All three teams will play one match with each other in the round-robin league format and the top two teams will make it to the final. The next match is between Laos and Bhutan on March 25. Likewise, Nepal will face Bhutan on March 28.


The final is scheduled for 5 pm  at the Dasharath Stadium on March 31.
