Nepal fights back against COVID-19: 45 districts under prohibitory orders

KATHMANDU, May 4: As the pandemic of the coronavirus disease is raging the country through its second wave, local administrations have been imposing prohibitory orders in order to restrict the movement of people and break the chain of transmission at the community level.

KATHMANDU, May 4: As the pandemic of the coronavirus disease is raging the country through its second wave, local administrations have been imposing prohibitory orders in order to restrict the movement of people and break the chain of transmission at the community level. 


As per the Cabinet’s decision to authorize the district level COVID-19 crisis management centers (DCCMCs) to place restrictions on various activities, as many as 45 districts across the country have imposed the prohibitory orders as of 10 AM on Tuesday. The Cabinet had decided that the hill districts with more than 200 active cases of the coronavirus and the districts located in the Kathmandu Valley and Tarai region with more than 500 active cases can impose the orders to stem the spread of the infection.

Entire areas of thirty-four districts including the three in the Kathmandu Valley, are under prohibitory orders while 11 other districts, mostly located in the hilly region, have enforced the orders in those parts of the district which are hit hard by the pandemic. 


Nepal has witnessed a massive surge in the coronavirus infection in recent days. According to the health ministry, a total of 7,448 cases were confirmed on Monday alone including 3,666 in the Kathmandu Valley.
