Nepal leaving for India for four-day tournament

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The Nepal national women’s football team is set to play a four-team tournament in India as preparations for the fifth SAFF Women’s Championship being held in Biratnagar and Olympics qualifiers.

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The Nepal national women’s football team is set to play a four-team tournament in India as preparations for the fifth SAFF Women’s Championship being held in Biratnagar and Olympics qualifiers.


The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) said on Tuesday that Nepal will also be participating in the tournament which will be organized by India. The tournament, being held in Bhubaneshwar of Odisha is slated to start on February 7.


The tournament will feature teams from host India, Nepal, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka. The Nepali team has been preparing for the SAFF Championship and the Olympics qualifiers for the past two months.

The SAFF Championship will start on March 12 at Sahid Stadium in Biratnagar.


The Nepali team has been working hard aiming to win the SAFF for the first time in its history.


In previous editions, Nepal has lost the final three times against India.


The Group A of the championship has Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Bhutan, while India, Maldives and Sri Lanka are in Group B. Earlier, the tournament was said to be organized in Sri Lanka, but later it refused to organize it. Nepal then got the chance to organize the tournament.
