Nepal loses another qualifying match

KATHMANDU, April 29: Nepal U-19 women’s football team has suffered a second straight loss in the second round of the ongoing AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Qualifiers as it lost 4-0 to Uzbekistan in Myanmar on Sunday.

KATHMANDU, April 29: Nepal U-19 women’s football team has suffered a second straight loss in the second round of the ongoing AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Qualifiers as it lost 4-0 to Uzbekistan in Myanmar on Sunday.


Nepal’s third round hopes are almost over as it has no point so far.


At the match played at Mandalathiri Stadium in Mandalay, Nepal conceded a goal in the first half. As the team could not perform as expected, it went on to concede three more goals in the second half.

Uzbekistan took advantage of poor defending from Nepal as the winning team prioritized on its attacks. It started the opening in the 20th minute as goalkeeper Anjana Rana Magar made an error leading to the goal.


Nepal tried to play attacking football after conceding, but could not get its shots on target and could not break the Uzbekistan defense line. Rekha Paudel got some chances for Nepal, but could not convert them.


Nepal showed some improvements in the second half, but conceded three more goals.


Earlier, in its first group match, it lost 11-1 to Australia. Nepal will play against the host Myanmar on Tuesday in its final group match. Nepal reached the second round finishing as the runner-up behind Thailand in October last year.
