KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) reported a record daily jump of 1,539 coronavirus infections on Wednesday, taking Nepal's COVID-19 tally to 58,327 as cases surged across the country.
Sharing the country's COVID-19 national updates on Wednesday afternoon at a virtual press meet, Jageshwar Gautam, the spokesperson for the MoHP, said that 1,539 persons tested positive for COVID-19 while conducting 10,494 PCR tests at various labs across the country in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 1,068 persons who were earlier diagnosed with COVID-19 were discharged after recovery from various health institutions across the country in the past 24 hours. "With this latest figure, the country's COVID-19 recovery tally stands at 41,706," the spokesperson said.
Spokesperson Gautam said that there are currently 16,242 active cases of coronavirus across the country.
As the country is grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic, eight coronavirus-linked deaths were recorded in various parts of the country in the past 24 hours. "With this, the COVID-19 death toll in Nepal stands at 379," Spokesperson Gautam said.
