Nepal starts process to procure vaccines from Russia, to hold talks for local production

KATHMANDU, Nov 30: The Government of Nepal has started the process to procure COVID-19 vaccines as well as establish a laboratory to produce the vaccines locally from the Russian government.

KATHMANDU, Nov 30: The Government of Nepal has started the process to procure COVID-19 vaccines as well as establish a laboratory to produce the vaccines locally from the Russian government. A letter has been sent to the government vaccine-producing company in Russia to inquire about the topic. 


The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has requested the Gamaleya Research Institute for Epidemiology and Microbiology to send information regarding the procurement process of the ‘Sputnik V’ vaccines as well as the criteria for local production of the vaccines in Nepal.

The Sputnik V is approved for use in over 72 countries and can be administered by people above the age of 12. Moreover, the vaccine is said to be effective for two years after being administered.
