Nepali rhinos found in India

CHITWAN, Nov 6: The two Nepali one-horned rhinos were found at Valmiki Tiger Reserve 25 k.m toward India from the Nepal border. A team from Chitwan National Park headed to India after the Reserve informed about the rhinos.


“Listed in the endangered species, those two rhinos are believed to be swept away by the floods during the monsoon”, said Dr. Kamal Gaire Veterinary Surgeon of National Park who is in India right now. Further, he added,“The rescue team is planning to get the rhinos back home within 3-4 days.”

“For the rescue operation of those rhinos, an elephant has been sent to the rescue site along with the rescuing prerequisites”, said Ram Chandra Kandel, the Chief Conservation Officer of Chitwan National Park.


Prior to this, the eight rhinos were swept away by the monsoon flood of  August 12 and were already been rescued whereas the other two rhinos were found dead during the floods.The disaster largely destroyed the habitat of Chitwan National Park.
