KATHMANDU, Jan 9: In order to give exposure to young players, New Diamond Academy has placed two teams in the ongoing Dhorpatan Double League Women’s Volleyball Tournament.


Coincidentally, the two teams faced each other on the second day of tournament on Sunday and the senior team overcame the junior team. In the match played at New Buspark, regular coach Kumar Rai had taken charge of the junior team while manager Sunkesari Mali was the coach of the senior team. However, the senior team registered straight sets victory of 25-9, 25-9, 25-4.

After the match, regular coach of the New Diamond Kumar Rai said, “We have got regular players in the senior team. That’s why we couldn’t give chance to the younger players. So we fielded different teams of young players in this tournament. We also faced accusation of not having strong bench so we are giving younger players chance in order to make the bench stronger in the future.” 


After the win, New Diamond’s senior team is on top with nine points and defending champion Armed Police Force (APF) is in the second place in the tournament. 


Similarly, Bijeshwari Gyan Mandir faced two defeats on the same day as it was defeated by two departmental sides APF and Tribhuvan Army. In the first match, Bijeshwari faced 25-6, 25-12, 25-9 defeat to APF while in the second match it was defeated by Tribhuvan 25-6, 25-12, 25-9. In other matches, host Dhorpatan Sports Club registered a hard-fought victory of 25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 21-25, 15-8 over Chandeswori Club.
