KATHMANDU, Feb 2: The Nepal Chamber of Industries and Commerce Kathmandu (NICICK) has condemned the arrest of industrialist Arun Kumar Chaudhary, who is also the chairman and managing director of CG Holdings.
NICICK stated that the arrest of Chaudhary in connection with the Bansbari Leather and Shoe Factory land-grab case is a deliberate attempt to undermine the dignity of the entire private sector. "We strongly disagree with the practice of detaining individuals without conclusive evidence during the ongoing investigation on any matter," reads a press statement issued by NICICK.
NADA objects to the arrest of industrialist Arun Chaudhary
"In the past, entrepreneurs have endured imprisonment for months over issues related to land disputes. If proven guilty through an investigation, the land dispute can be effectively resolved by transferring the land to the rightful owner. Detaining a person solely on this basis is not the appropriate course of action."
"It is a matter of serious consideration that such a ruthless attack is faced by individuals who contribute significantly to the economy by investing, generating employment opportunities, and retaining their assets within the nation during the period of democratic government. We demand that such actions should not happen in the future and that Chaudhary should be released from custody as soon as possible," adds the statement.
