The NMA had been issuing mountaineering permit for 15 peaks since 2002. It was later limited to 12 peaks. The NMA had been making an income of around 6 million rupees annually. The Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation will raise revenue from the 12 peaks henceforth.

Discussion is underway in relation to the NMA peaks and a decision will be taken within a day or two. The final decision however will be taken by the Council of Ministers.
