EC to decide on voting rights of officials and security personnel: SC


Supreme Court has refused to issue interim order on a writ petition seeking the apex court order to the authorities -- the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Election Commission, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice and the Ministry of General Administration--to ensure the voting rights of the public servants and security personnel deployed on election duty. Citing Article 84 (5) of the Constitution which has guaranteed any citizen of eighteen years and above to cast vote in any one electoral constituency, the petitioner has sought the apex court order to allow the civil servants and security personnel deployed on election duty to cast their votes for parliamentary and provincial assembly elections under the proportional representation system.  However, a division bench of Acting Chief Justice Deepak Raj Joshee and Justice Dambar Bahadur Shahi stated that the Election Commission (EC) would consider over poll staffers voting rights.



Education Minister directs KNMC to allocate seat numbers for new admission


 Education Ministry has directed controversial Kathmandu National Medical College to allocate the seat numbers for new admissions from current academic calendar. Breaching its own jurisdiction, the ministry has directed the controversial medical college to allocate the number of seats. Though the Medical Council posses the right to allocate the seat for each academic calendar, Education Minister Gopal Man Shrestha wrote a letter to the college and directed to allot the seats.

Sindhuli jeep mishap: Dream to build quake-resistant houses remains unfulfilled


Four people have lost their lives when they were returning home with the second installment of their housing grant after a jeep they were traveling in met with an accident at Tarkibesi in Fikal Rural Municipali-4. The deceased have been identified as Amar Bahadur Darlami, 40, Ram Prasad Baral, 40, Dip Bahadur Magar, 59 and Narbahadur Balampakhi, 60, of Fikal Rural Municipality-4, confirmed DSP Binod Sharma of the District Police Office, Sindhuli. The ill-fated jeep, Ba 7 Cha 3695, was heading to Khangsang from Khurkot when the accident took place on Sunday night. The bodies of the killed have been handed over to their respective families following postmortem.



House owner asks Former President Yadav to leave for not paying rent


The house owner Ravi Bhakta Bista has asked former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav to leave after the government failed to pay the rents since several months. The Lalitpur Metropolitan Baagdole's house has been used by the government for President's residence. The house was rented from October 29, 2015, for President's residency after his successful tenure as the first President of Nepal ended. The house owner has not received the rent since August 2017.



Paradise Papers: Queen's private estate invested millions in offshore funds, leaked files reveal



The Queen's private estate, Bono and one of Donald Trump's closest advisors are among those whose offshore investments have been revealed in one of the largest ever leaks, dubbed the "Paradise Papers". The 13.4 million files, which were obtained after a hack on law firm Appleby which has offices in Bermuda, the Isle of Man and a number of other tax havens, show the complex financial dealings of the super-rich and major global corporations. 



Son becomes Premier League’s highest-scoring Asian


Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min is keen to continue his goal scoring exploits, the striker said as he became the Premier League’s highest-scoring Asian after scoring the winner in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace. South Korea international Son surpassed compatriot and retired Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-sung with a 20-yard curler for his third goal of the season across all competitions to get Tottenham a win at Wembley.
