NRA Chief urges support of local communities for reconstruction

KATHMANDU, March 18: Govinda Raj Pokhrel, the CEO of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), has said that post-quake reconstruction would be difficult for the government without support of local communities.

KATHMANDU, March 18: Govinda Raj Pokhrel, the CEO of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), has said that post-quake reconstruction would be difficult for the government without support of local communities.



Speaking at a program organized by Shanti Education Initiative Nepal (SEI Nepal) in Lalitpur on Friday, Pokharel said that a lot of reconstruction work is still to be done and involvement of all stakeholders of the society, community and organization is important to accomplish the work at the earliest.



“Reconstruction work can be completed only if social, economic and physical reconstructions go together. There are complaints that the reconstruction is moving at a slow pace. But it is also important to note that the quality of reconstruction should also get equal priority,” said Pokharel.



SEI Nepal, which has already constructed buildings for 22 schools after earthquake in Lalipur, Kathmandu, Kavrepalanchowk and Dolakha distributed, on the occasion distributed laptops to each 15 educational resource centers of Lalitpur. 



Rabindra Maharjan, president of SEI Nepal, said that the organization has collected Rs 30 million in donations for reconstruction of the schools from various individuals and institutions. He also said that the organization was dedicated to provide Nepali children quality education by rebuilding schools, training teachers and mobilizing national and international volunteers.



Speaking at the function, Pokharel also said that the NRA creates enabling environment for reconstruction while the local communities, organizations and people will have to work at the ground level.



 Also speaking at the function, Lawmaker Madan Amatya urged the government to give priority to reconstruction of school buildings. Likewise, another parliamentarian Chandra Maharjan said that the government should work to uplift the quality of community at par with private schools.
