LONDON, Aug 18: The Non Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has recommended nine suggestions on a citizenship bill that would help to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063. The bill has been tabled at the parliament by the government.

Issuing a press release, the NRNA's chairperson, Bhawan Bhatta welcomed the Bill but offered nine suggestions to address all the demands that the Association has raised.

Through the press release, Bhatta accused the Nepali government of restricting rights that Nepali residing in foreign lands could enjoy. "Except political rights, the government has barred the NRNs to enjoy financial, social and cultural rights," the press release said.

According to the NRNA, presenting proof of forfeiting Nepali citizenship as the first criteria was unnecessary as there already was a provision to cease Nepali citizenship once Nepali adopted foreign nationality.

The NRNA has also urged the government to provide a certificate equivalent to Nepali citizenship. Other suggestions include NRNAs to receive citizenship and passports from district offices and Nepali missions, providing foreign born wives and children up to three generations with Nepali citizenships. It has also said that Nepali citizens should automatically receive Nepali citizenship once they forefeet foreign citizenship.
